Our Last Few Games of WPL!

The great advantage of the Women’s Premier League is that you can be in one city and catch a lot of the games.

Due to our relationships with the two Lisa’s who are working within two different franchises, we have been welcomed in by both teams extremely well.

For our last game with the UP Warriorz, we made our way to our favourite seats “the get on TV seats,” sporting the team’s t-shirts. We cheered on Grace Harris who opened the batting. Her and Vrinda (our new favourite Indian domestic player) had a wonderful partnership but then they fell away against a quality MI team.

With Vrinda…nice photo boom Rina!

T Mac faced a stunning delivery that bowled her out. It was tough for her, especially since she had just been named captain of the Aussie girls’ tour to New Zealand, and she remarked, “Cricket can be brutal!” Unfortunately, it wasn’t the best game for the Warriorz, as Mumbai proved too strong.

The following day we bid farewell to our adopted team, UP WarriorZ, as they headed to Lucknow for three games at their home stadium. We know the locals will rally behind them, and we’ll be tuning in to catch every match.

Time to turn our attention to our “other” adopted team, Delhi Capitals. It was the top of the table clash against the Mumbai Indians. DC were flawless in all aspects of the game with another masterclass in batting by Meg Lanning.

However the TV cameras again found me (Russian) in the stands this time doing the “Floss” after DC had taken a wicket. To put this into context Jemimah Rodrigues had taken the catch & immediately did the floss so I was happily doing it in the stand.

Well the cameras zoomed in & it virtually went viral. Mel Jones who was a commentator (whom we had dinner with the night before) apparently said something along the lines of “you can’t take them anywhere”. Make sure to check out our Instagram and Facebook account for the video!

Then we got back to the DC hotel & the team arrived back, pointing out that they had seen me on the ground bigscreen from the dugout & thought it was hilarious. Sourav Ganguly (former Indian men’s Capt, former BCCI President & now part owner of the DC franchise) later came up to me & introduced himself saying he really enjoyed seeing my support of the Team. But that was not the last of it. The DC media crew asked to film me doing the floss which I duly agreed to 😂 than asked if they could film me feeding Meg Lanning cake which again was done.

Again to put this into context when a Team win they have a cake which the player/s of the match cut & a team member feeds the first bite to them. It’s a tradition, a slightly unique one, but non the less a tradition! As Meg is the Capt. of DC & won the match to be asked to feed her a piece of cake was funny especially as I had to say to her, do you mind.

Meg being the gracious person she is, agreed so that was pretty special. Who would have thought me mucking around in the stands enjoying the game would have created so many funny & memorable moments. Lisa K, Rina, Olivia Thornton & the rest of the players parents & friends were all killing themselves laughing.

Our final game of WPL was watching DC take on the home side of RCB. DC again put on a show. They bowled RCB out for 147 & passed the score with the loss of only 1 wicket.

Sourav Ganguly said to me he hoped to see some more “flossing” tonight.

Just goes to show you do something silly & everyone notices 😂😂

After the game we joined in with the Team back at their hotel to celebrate the win. Jemimah Rodigues & I doing the floss together was a lot of fun. Again head to our Instagram and Facebook account to see the silly things I get up to.

So much fun was had watching high quality cricket. Everyone has been so welcoming here in India, they do cricket differently. The lights, the atmosphere, the colour and entertainment is a must for any cricket follower. It is completely a different experience and one that must be on your bucket list.

Russian and a bit of Rina 🙂
